  If robots have emotions...
Robots are everywhere. They have been into mountains, into the oceans, and even into space! It's not hard to think of the future when robots will do everything for people.
In the future, robots might look, talk and walk like people. Some scientists say you may even have robot friends in a few years' time! But for this, robots must be able to think and have emotions.
Scientists are already making robots that can act like animals. Professor Ayanna Luc Steels from France is one of them. He is the man behind Sony's "Aibo" robot dog. Aibo can understand over 70 words and find its own way around a house! But Professor Steels really wants to make robots that can act and think like people.
"Today, robots are like actors. They may show emotions, but they don't feel them," Professor Steels says. "I want to change that."
"Robots will be more like humans in the future," Professor Steels says. "But most will still only do jobs people can't do, or don't want to do. Robots never get bored, tired or scared. So they are perfect for working in factories and in dangerous places."
Will robots take over the world? Most scientists don't think this will happen, at least until robots can think! If a robot can't think, it can only do things it's told to by people. So don't worry now!
